The Statesman William (Bill) Clyburn Timeline

Timeline - 1

Bill Clyburn began this journey as a stateman in Aiken, South Carolina, in February 1971 when we got elected as precinct officers. He was elected Executive Committeeman, and I was elected President of Aiken Precinct #4. With our commitment to the task and the help of the people in the community, we developed that precinct into one of the top-performing precincts in voter turnout in Aiken.

I have known State Rep William “Bill” Clyburn for 57 years and worked with him as an Assistant Football Coach at Schofield School and Assistant Principal at Aiken High School. Our Children grew up together with many fond memories. He has been a leader, having served on Aiken City Council, Aiken County Council, the South Carolina Workman’s Compensation Commission, and is currently Vice Chairman of the Aiken County Legislative Delegation and serving in the SC House of Representative representing District 82 on the SC Ways & Means Committee-a position that is difficult to acquire. He is a Christian Man of many talents, but he is also fighting daily for health care, affordable housing, criminal justice reform, improved infrastructure, and ensuring that citizens are paid a living wage in District 82 and the State of SC.

I am William Price, and on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 -- I will cast my vote for Bill Clyburn, and I hope you will also.

My name is Gail Bush Diggs, and I am a member of the Aiken City Council. I am in my third term as the representative for District One. Bill Clyburn is not only my neighbor but also my friend, mentor, and confidant. He loves his community, and it shows. Bill is not a stranger and shows up in support of events through District 82, where he is known and respected. His peers in Columbia see him as a trusted public servant and a voice for the voiceless and appointed him to be a lead on the powerful House Ways & Means Committee. Bill has continued to advocate for education and healthcare and make sure that residents in District One have access to affordable, accessible, and quality primary care and do not have to choose between buying food or a doctor's visit! Bill listens to his constituents and does everything in his power to ensure that their concerns are addressed. We need him in Columbia & especially in District 82!

Gail B. Diggs, Member Aiken City Council District One

William “Bill” Clyburn is a compassionate and caring individual who believes in access to quality health care for all regardless of their ability to pay. His compassion is demonstrated every day as he advocates for the less fortunate from the State House to his local district in Aiken. Mr. Clyburn has exceeded expectations in his efforts to ensure that the citizens of Aiken have access to COVID testing and vaccination. In addition, Mr. Clyburn frequently travels to remote, medically underserved areas in his district to meet with citizens to hear their concerns regarding the need for accessible health care in their local communities. He doesn’t only listen, but he also takes action to get their concerns to the proper entities and individuals that can assist in bringing about change.
